Giving Opportunities

The Loras College Library encourages gifts of significant or landmark books in all fields of intellectual endeavor. These might be first or limited editions, signed books of famous people, books printed in Dubuque prior to 1900 or in Iowa prior to 1865. Books printed in Europe prior to 1600 (especially prior to 1500), manuscript books created prior to 1500, or original legal documents dated prior to 1850.

Gifts of funds or materials to enhance our current collections are also encouraged. These collections include:

  • The Father Karl G. Schroeder Shakespeare Sources Collection that supports our English Curriculum
  • The Reverend J. Kenneth Downing collection of ancient Greek and Roman Coins that enhances instruction in Greek and Roman history
  • The Father Karl G. Schroeder Recusant Literature Collection that is heavily used by our History students
  • The Horace Howard Furness Collection of Horace which ranks as one of the top 5 collections in the country

The Library reserves the right to determine whether materials donated belong in Special Collections or in the regular collection.
