Topographic Maps...

Topographic maps are based on topographical surveys and show both natural and man-made features, such as towns and roads. Color and contour lines are used to depict land type and elevation, while the legend and margins contain other useful information.


The USGS topographic maps are available for downloading from these selected websites:

Topographic Maps (Tangible) for Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin

The Loras Library has printed 7.5' topographical quadrangle maps for Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin. They are available on the 1st floor in the flat map cases near the Center for Dubuque History. The map case drawers are arranged by state, and then alphabetical by name of quadrangle.

The library has maps dating from 1967 to 2009, when the U.S. Geological survey stopped distributing printed maps.
