Your Personal Librarian

This guide provides information about the Loras College Library's Personal Librarian program.

What is a Personal Librarian?

The Personal Librarian (PL) program at Loras College Library matches students with their own Personal Librarian. Your personal librarian serves as your point of contact for the Library. How much or how little you choose to make use of your PL is up to you.

All PLs are dedicated to helping all students be successful researchers. Think of your PL as your Library advisor – someone who will help you build the skills to successfully navigate your academic path during your years at Loras.

How can my PL help me?

Your Personal Librarian can assist with:

  • finding information for your research assignments, including formulating your research question, identifying search strategies, and locating the best sources
  • locating books and articles in the library
  • helping when you don’t know where to start or can’t think or what to do next
  • keeping you informed with periodic emails about new and exciting resources/programs or reminders about changes in Library hours
  • supporting you when you’re away from campus – just email or chat
  • questions about Library policies, procedures and services

Your Personal Librarian will not:

  • set up your computer (contact the HelpDesk or call 4949)
  • do your research, make photocopies, or write your paper for you (sorry!)
