Weeding the Library Collection: Our Current Process
A guide to the weeding project at Loras College Library.
Librarians are willing to work with faculty from each of the programs to develop the criteria which the librarians will use for weeding. (March-May 2014)
We will only be looking at materials that have not circulated since 1994 when the library went online with our current catalog.
Librarians will review all books after they are pulled from the shelves and before they are actually withdrawn from the collection. (June-August 2014 and beyond)
Collection overview/review is one of those things that librarians learn about in our Masters education programs and practice on a regular basis. Although the process is not infallible, we're willing to work to correct any weeding errors.
