How To

Use the New York Times Site License

Using The New York Times Academic Site License

Step 1: Navigate to https://login.ezproxy.loras.edu/login?url=https://ezmyaccount.nytimes.com/grouppass/redir. Log in with your network login and password.

Step 2: At the NYTimes.com pass site, click "Create Account" and complete fields. You must use your @loras.edu email address. (See below if you have an existing NYT account with your @loras.edu email address.)

Step 3: Verify your account (you will receive a confirmation email).*

 * The confirmation email may be routed to your spam folder. You must click the link in this email to complete the registration.

If you have an existing New York Times Account:

If you have previously registered your @loras.edu email address on The New York Times site, you will click "Log in here" below the Create Account button link for Step 2.

If you have a Current Paid Subscription:

Anyone with a paid account using their @loras.edu address who wants to switch over, must first deactivate their subscription, and wait for their subscription to expire.  That will "free up" the email address.

To cancel an existing PAID subscription, contact New York Times Customer Care at: customercare@nytimes.com or 800-591-9233.

Once your email address is available, you may follow the steps above, but instead of clicking "Create Account" click the link below ("Already have an account?  Log in here") and login with your @loras.edu email address.

Additional Troubleshooting

If you run into other issues while trying to access the New York Times via the Loras site license please visit the NYT Help page, email their support at: edu@nytimes.com, or call them at 800-753-7795.

  • Unlimited access to some historical articles (limit of 5 per day for access to articles dated 1923-1980).

Academic Passes need to be renewed annually from the date of initial registration.  You will not be notified that your access has expired, but if you are seeing a message about hitting your limit of "free articles" while viewing the The New York Times online, it's probably time to renew.

Visit NYTimes.com to renew your account.  Log in with the Loras email address and password you used during the initial registration.  Follow the on- screen instructions to complete the process.

You can also check what date your account is set to expire by visiting NYTimes.com when logged into your account.  You will find an option to set a reminder to renew on your calendar.
