The Loras College Library is home to two large, archival collections and a large collection of historic manuscripts and books. Typically, these types of materials are only available to researchers able to visit the collections in person. In an effort to improve the accessibility of the collection, we have been digitizing frequently requested materials as time and budget allow. We have also been experimenting with multiple options for storage of digital materials so our collections are currently spread across three platforms. The links on this page will take you to the main page for each system. Use the tabs on the left to learn more about the collections associated with each department.
JSTOR's Shared Collections database is the newest addition to our archival storage options. Shared Collections allows us to share our materials broadly by incorporating them into the search results of JSTOR, a database that is available for anyone to search. JSTOR holds all of our digitized photograph collections as well as our smaller document collections.
Omeka is open-source digital exhibit software and is home to the majority of our digital exhibits.
The Internet Archive is an American nonprofit digital library founded on May 10, 1996, and chaired by free information advocate Brewster Kahle. It provides free access to collections of digitized materials including websites, software applications, music, audiovisual and print materials. We primarily use this system for books and newspapers as it handles these types of materials better then other options we have explored.
