Spring break just passed. You spent time with family and now feel refreshed and ready to finish the year. Then, you remember it’s halfway through the semester. Passing midterms week means that there are more research papers, tests, speeches, and those dreaded final exams are coming up. Your room is too distracting. You find you can’t focus. The lobby of the residence hall is too loud. Like many other students, you decide to go to the library, but your usual table is filled and there are no study rooms open. Well, don’t worry, because there are plenty of good study spots throughout the library that you can take advantage of now that the semester is getting busier.
The first floor of the library holds the Center for Dubuque History. It’s a private and quiet place for research and studying that isn’t usually very busy, but right around the corner are two comfy chairs off on their own that are perfect for focusing and getting your work done.
Right along the railing of the stairs on the third floor are a couple of sets of arm chairs. It’s a great place to read in a comfortable chair with natural light. Underneath the stairs to the fourth floor is a little nook with tables, hard-backed chairs, and lounge chairs; it features every possible seating option to suit your studying needs.
If you walk up to the fourth floor and go past the bathrooms to the very end of the stacks, hidden among the bookshelves there are two private lounge chairs. Overlooking a study area, it is a very quiet place to get your work done (or take a nap).
The fourth floor has more than just the balcony lounge area. By the wall opposite of the stairs is a variety of quiet study areas and clusters of lounge chairs. Behind the stacks and next to large windows, it’s a very peaceful place for homework and to prepare for the rest of your busy semester!
We hope some of these spots can help you focus and finish out strong during this last semester!
