Alternate Hours Loras Library SignFinals week is here at last!  While this means that Winter Break is just around the corner, it also means that those dreaded final exams and papers are here, as well.  During these last few days of the semester, be sure to take advantage of the library space as a resource for your studying! We have extended hours specifically for you, staying open until 7pm this Friday and Saturday and opening at 10am on Sunday.

Though simply being in the library may aid in your studying, here are some more study tips to make sure you are as focused as possible when preparing for your final exams.

  1. Stay organized.  Plan out the times you’ll study for certain exams, and make sure you have all the materials you need before studying.

  2. Leave your phone in your backpack or even your room.  The Internet is a huge distraction, and though you may still be working on your laptop, setting your phone aside will limit many temptations to text or Snapchat your friends. Even turning off notifications could help you maintain focus.

  3. Write out your notes and speak them aloud.  Research suggests that you retain more information when you write something than when you type it, so take the time to copy your notes by hand.  Reading your notes out loud also helps to store information.

  4. Library

Don’t cram.  Time management is essential this week.  Study a little each day rather than all the night before.  This is easier said than done, but pacing yourself will alleviate exhaustion and help your memory.  Switch up your focus between subjects so you don’t burn out pouring over one study guide for hours.

  5. Create study groups.  Grab your friends from class and go over the course material together.  Teaching others is a great way to gauge if you understand the content. Though being in groups can sometimes it can be a distraction, it is also a great way to hold each other accountable and get your work done as long as you are focused.

  6. Take a break.  You need to stay energized to get through this week.  So grab a snack, take a nap, and drink lots of water. Walk from your dorm or apartment to the library to stay active in between studying sessions.

We believe you can finish this semester out strong.  Good luck, Duhawks!
