Library entranceIt’s halfway through the semester now, and if you’re still struggling on how to be the most successful college student you can be, we’re here to offer you advice from both us and students who regularly take advantage of the Library’s resources.

Amelia, a sophomore who is frequently in the Library, says, “I go to the Library most days after class because it is an environment where I can really focus and get my homework done.  The availability of a printer and the fact that there is always someone available to answer questions and provide certain resources are also great benefits.”

The Library has many different types of study areas where you can focus.  Besides private study rooms, we have quiet study areas, comfy chairs, meeting areas, and group study rooms.  Whatever environment you require for studying, the Library provides it.  And the Library Assistants are always available for questions about the printers and other resources available at the front desk, but if you have questions surrounding your work that is more research based, be sure to contact your Personal Librarian.  They are dedicated to helping all students become successful researchers by to helping you formulate research questions and locate resources.

Brigid, a junior with many responsibilities, makes time to study in the Library and makes use of the resources, saying, “I love using the study rooms to focus on papers I have to write.  If the work isn’t as important, like if I’m just reading for class, I spend my time sitting in the comfy arm chairs.  Also, it’s nice to be able to check out chargers behind the front desk.  You never know when you might need to charge while studying.”

There are study rooms available on every floor, and the sizes vary so that you can use one room for a group study session or project or smaller rooms for when you need to cram and finish that paper!  In addition to the chargers, we also provide whiteboard markers, headphones, DVD players, and art kits to help with any special projects you may need help with for your courses.

Benjamin, a junior, says, “I study best at night and with mostly complete silence, so it’s nice that the Library is open later so that I can go in when I want at night and be able to focus better than if I were in my room or somewhere else on campus with more noise.”

Don’t forget our hours!  Unless it’s a holiday weekend, such as Fall Free Days this weekend, the Library is open from noon until midnight on Sundays, 7:45am until midnight Monday through Thursday, 7:45am until 4pm on Fridays, and 10am until 4pm on Saturdays.  There are so many hours that some are sure to work with your schedule. So make sure you take advantage of what the Library has to offer, whether it’s a Saturday afternoon or a late Wednesday night.

These are just some starting steps to making sure you continue being a successful student.  Planning time out in your day to come to the Library and study will help you out and we’re here for the rest of the little details along the way too.
