In some of your classes, there will be certain books from the library that the professor requires you to read that were not on your book list for the class.  In order for you and the rest of your classmates to find this book and get a chance to read it, the professor will most likely place the reading on reserve.

The reserves are held behind the desk so that they are easy to locate and check out to those needing them.  The most important thing you need to know about reserved materials is that the items have a limited check out time.  This is done so that everyone can have an opportunity to read the material.  Usually, a reserve item can be checked out for two hours and has to stay in the library, though, there are some cases that are different.  When checking out the book, the library assistant at the desk will tell you how long you have, but come prepared to read the book somewhere in the library.

In order to find the reserved material you need, you can check on the library’s course reserve webpage or your course syllabus.  Simply write down the call number and ask a library assistant to locate the book for you behind the desk!  And these materials are here all semester, so don’t wait until the last minute to try and check out the same reserve the rest of your class is; be proactive in using this resource!
