How to Use Database Alert Services

How to set up tables-of-contents and search alerts, and stay up-to-date in your field!

Search Alert Instructions - for Databases by Vendor

  1. Connect to the EBSCO databases where you want to set up your subject alert (here's a list)
  2. Register for a free MyEBSCOhost account by clicking on the "Sign In" at the top-right, and the "Create one now" on the next page; then sign in to your MyEBSCOhost account.
  3. Use the search boxes to construct the search that interests you. Be sure to click on the Search button.
  4. Click on the "Share" button and choose "Create an alert" and then "Email alert"
  5. Fill out the form that appears: Decide on the format, content, and duration of the alert, adding your email address to the form; use the "advanced" settings if necessary.
  6. Click "Save alert"
  7. Note: you will receive a confirmation email.
  8. Keep track of all your Search Alerts in your MyEBSCOhost folder.
  1. Connect to the Gale database where you want to set up your subject alert (here's a list
  2. Use the search boxes to construct the search that interests you. Be sure to click on the Search button.
  3. Look at the bottom of the column on the right. Click on "create search alert."
  4. Decide on the format and frequency of the alert. Be sue to add your email address.
  5. Click "Submit"
  6. Note: you will receive a confirmation email. (This email will also give you an "unsubscribe" link.)
  1. Connect to the Proquest database that contains your journal (here's a list
  2. Register for a free My Research account, then sign in to your My Research account.
  3. Click on Advanced Search, and use the search boxes to construct your search. Be sure to click on the "Search" button.
  4. Click on the "Save search/alert" and the "Create alert." 
  5. Decide on the format, content, and duration of the alert
  6. Click "Create alert"
  7. Note: you will receive a confirmation email. Follow the instructions given in the email. You can keep track of all you Proquest alerts in your My Research account.
  1. Go to the PubMed database
  2. Register for a free account: Click "Sign in to NCBI" at the top-right, and then find "Register for a NCBI account" at the bottom of the page
  3. Navigate to the advanced search page (it will say "PubMed Advanced Search Builder" at the top of the page)
  4. Use the search box to construct the search you're interested in. Click "Search."
  5. Click on "Create Alert" at the top of the page, underneath your search bar
  6. Name the search, decide its schedule, the preferred format and the number of items to display
  7. Click Save at the bottom of the page
  8. To view your active alerts:
    1. Select "My NCBI" at the top right corner of the page
    2. Your alert will be listed in the "Saved Searches" box
  1. Make sure you are logged into your Google account, using the Chrome browser.
  2. Go to https://www.google.com/alerts
  3. Use the alert box to create your search. Click on the "Create Alert" button.
  4. Keep track of your alerts at the same address (as long as you're logged in).
