Exemptions to Copyright Law for Face-to-Face Education

For purposes of face-to-face classroom instruction at non-profit educational institutions, exemptions to copyright law allow performance or display (not copying or reproduction) of a copyrighted work, with these conditions.

  • The copy of the work used must be lawful.
  • The work will be used in the course of face-to-face teaching activities of a non-profit institution in a classroom or similar place devoted to instruction.
