Gender Studies

Atlantis is a scholarly research journal devoted to critical and creative writing that reflects current scholarship in and approaches to the discipline of Women's Studies. It incorporates a diversity of feminist, anti-racist and critical identity, intersectional, and transnational approaches to a wide variety of contemporary issues, topics, and knowledges. Atlantis is dedicated to the ongoing growth of knowledge in the field of Women's Studies as well as to critical reflection on the field itself.

This page links to sites for journals and magazines by/for women, including a few "traditional" women's magazines that emphasize beauty, fashion, and dieting. Web pages of periodicals vary considerably. Most describe the publications and provide recent tables of contents, subscription information, and sample articles in full-text. Some are online 'zines with no print equivalent.

The Duke Journal of Gender Law & Policy is an interdisciplinary publication devoted to a discussion of gender, sexuality, race, and class in the context of law and public policy. Our mission is to foster debate, to publish work largely overlooked by other law reviews, and to encourage scholarship outside the bounds of conventional law school curricula. In doing so, we take an expansive view of law, engaging other disciplines including literature, sociology, anthropology, psychology, politics, and critical theory. Our goal is not only to explore what the law was and is, but what it could and should be.

FEMINIST COLLECTIONS: A QUARTERLY OF WOMEN'S STUDIES RESOURCES (ISSN 0742-7441) reviews the latest print, electronic, and audiovisual resources for research and teaching in women's studies. Recent book reviews have treated such subjects as women of color in academia, pregnancy in modern America, feminist evangelicalism, and girls' studies. There are guides to new bibliographies and reference works, critiques of videos, announcements of new websites and blogs, and news of out-of-the-way materials -- pamphlets, reports, rare book dealers' catalogs, microforms, and more. Thoughtful articles by experts explore women's publishing, Internet resources, library organization, archives, and other tools for feminist scholarship.

Ms. was the first national magazine to make feminist voices audible, feminist journalism tenable, and a feminist worldview available to the public. It features prominent American women and was the first to demand the repeal of laws that criminalized abortion, the first to explain and advocate for the ERA, to rate presidential candidates on women's issues, to put domestic violence and sexual harassment on the cover of a women's magazine, to feature feminist protest of pornography, to commission and feature a national study on date rape, and to blow the whistle on the undue influence of advertising on magazine journalism.
