Library Instruction Activities: Info Ethics

For librarians only

Online Citation Formatting Game

Drag-and-drop style APA and MLA citation formatting game.  Students drag and drop each element of the citation into the correct order and click "check."  Provides immediate feedback.

APA Citation Activity

This activity, between the brief presentation and the activity itself, takes approximately 30 minutes.

  • Print and cut out each of the citations, and tape each element of the citations to a magnet
  • On a whiteboard (magnetic), using a dry erase marker, create 8 columns
  • In each column, place the magnetic elements for one citation, and write down the number of periods and commas they will need to construct a correct citation
  • In groups, ask students to correctly reassemble the citations using APA style.  They are allowed to use the APA style manual, or any resource they find online
  • Optional: The first group to correctly reassemble their citation, wins

Plagiarism Case Studies

[Please see portal for complete set of documents.]  Divide students into five groups, and set up plagiarism case studies at five tables.  Ask students to review all of the evidence, and determine as a group whether or not the student in the case study is guilty of plagiarism.  Review all groups' decisions with the whole class.
