Borrowing Policies

A guide to library borrowing privileges and responsibilities.

My Library Account

Your My Library Account is where you can find a list of all the books you've checked out, see when your books are due, and check on the status of any holds you've placed.

To login to My Library Account:

  • click on the Sign In button in the upper right hand corner of the catalog search screen
  • enter your Loras network username and password (the same thing you login to your computer with)
  • the login button should now say your name and have drop down arrow
  • click on it and select My Account

HOLDS:

DuSearch lets you place a hold on items that are available or checked out, as long as they aren't on reserve, in the Center for Dubuque History, or in Special Collections.

Items that are available will be pulled from the shelves each morning and held at the Check-out desk for you to pick up. Items that are checked out will be held at the Check-out desk as soon as they are returned by their current borrower. In either case, you will get an email as soon as they are available to be picked up and you will have 5 days to pick them up from the library.

Here's how you place a hold.

  • Search for the book The horse and buggy doctor, by Arthur E. Hertzler, M.D. and click on the title.
  • Click on the Place Hold button under Availability.
  • Sign in to DuSearch if you aren't already
  • Click Submit

The green bar at the top tells you, you have successfully placed a hold!

CANCELLING A HOLD:

Here's how you cancel a hold.

  • Click on your name to get dropdown and select My Account from the list
  • Click on the tab that says 1 Holds
  • Click the Remove button
  • Confirm that yes, you want the hold removed
  • A confirmation screen will tell you that you've been successful
