If your initial search results in too many items, or items that are off-topic, then it may be useful to narrow your results by type of publication, or by one or more academic disciplines.
Narrow by Discipline
- On the JSTOR homepage, choose 'advanced search' from the 'Search' tab at the top of the page.
- Enter your search terms in the boxes at the top of the page, and then scroll down to the 'Narrow by Discipline and/or Publication Title.' Choose two or three discipline that will provide an appropriate focus for your search.
Narrow to Specific Journals
- By clicking the plus sign (+) next to each discipline name, a list of all the journals associated with that discipline will appear.
- You can narrow your search to a specific journal or journals by checking the boxes next to the journal titles.
